Baden-Baden is a Rhine River cruise port and town in Germany's Baden-Wurttemberg state (Urban district), with population around 60,000. The town is at the northwestern border of Schwarzwald/Black Forest mountain. River Oos flows through the town. Baden-Baden is just 10 km (6 mi) east of the Rhine River (where is also the border with France) and approx 40 km (25 mi) northeast of Strasbourg France. The town has a population of around 55,000.

The springs at the town of Baden-Baden were famous to the Romans as "The Waters" (Aquae) and "Aurelia-of-the-Waters" (Aurelia Aquensis) in honour of M.Aurelius Severus Alexander Augustus. Baden is a gerund which means "bathing" (modern German), but the original name of the town, Baden, derives from the earlier plural form of "bath" (Bad).

The western districts of Baden-Baden lie within Upper Rhine Plain. The town's highest mountain is Badener Hohe (1,003 m / 3289 ft above sea level), which is part of Black Forest National Park. Baden-Baden's old town lies on a hill's side on the right bank of the Oos River. Since the 19th century, Baden-Baden principal resorts have been situated on the other riverside. There are a total of 29 natural springs in the region, varying in temperature between 115-153 °F (46-67 °C).

Baden-Baden offers plenty of options for sports enthusiasts; tennis and golf are both popular in the area. Each May, August and October horse races take place at nearby Iffezheim. The Baden-Baden countryside is good for mountain climbing and hiking. In the winter the town is a popular skiing destination. An 18-hole golf course is available in Fremersberg.
