Beaune is considered Burgundy's "wine capital" as the annual "Hospices de Beaune" is France's primary wine auction is held here.

In the region surrounding Beaune are located some of the world's most famous wine-producing villages. The cellars of many renowned French winemakers are in the town's historic center.

The town also features well-preserved Roman walls, with most structures (battlements, ramparts, a moat) that are in very good condition. Other popular tourist attractions include the old market, shopping area (around downtown's square, with shops selling gourmet food, fashion clothing, wine), Hospices (15th-century hospitals), Beffroi (clock tower), Notre Dame church. On the outskirts are located large supermarkets and business parks.
