Bingen is a Rhine River cruise port and town in Germany's Baden-Wurttemberg state (Sigmaringen district) with population around 25,000.
Bingen's best-known tourist attraction and signature landmark is the Hornstein Castle (ruins of the former Reichsfestung) built in the late-13th-century. Between 1818-69, the castle served as prison and asylum. In 1879 it was partly demolished. Castle's chapel is well-preserved and still used for religious ceremonies.
