Bintulu is a port city located on Borneo Island (Malaysia), some 610 km (380 mi) northeast of Kuching.
The current-day city has a population of around 115,000. This was a small fishing town until 1969 when off the Borneo's coast were discovered oil and gas reserves. Bintulu Port is the largest in the state of Sarawak. The city is also a gateway to the Samalajau Industrial Park. Among the tourist attractions are
