Blanquilla Island (Venezuela) is located in the southeastern Caribbean Sea, approx 293 km (182 mi) northeast of Caracas, the country's capital city. The island is uninhabited and covers a total area of approx 65 km2 (25 mi2).
Blanquilla Island is a popular travel vacation and a great diving location. Most tourists arrive here by seaplanes or tour boats. The island is famous for its white-sand beaches. The wildlife includes local cacti and iguanas, wild donkeys and goats. The reefs are notable for their black corals used for jewelry and other crafts.
The basement rock (the oldest in the area) is visible in the western third of the island. The remainder of the island consists of 3 limestone terraces on the older basement rock.
