Bluff is an NZ port city located at a peninsula 27 km (16 mi) from Invercargill - New Zealand's southernmost-westernmost city. Bluff was settled in 1824 as a fishing port and is NZ's oldest town.

Today, South Port Bluff is a busy cargo shipping port in which traffic hugely increased after building a large artificial island in the harbour. Among the area's highlights are Foveaux Strait (between Bluff and Stewart Island), Maritime Museum, Paua Shell House (Christchurch), Stirling Point (the State Highway 1's south end), Bluff Hill Lookout.

Also available is ferry service between Bluff to Oban, Stewart Island (Rakiura), popular for its native birdlife, and also the NZ's only spot where kiwi birds can be seen in their natural habitat.
