Boppard/Boppart is a Rhine River cruise port, city and municipality in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Rhein-Hunsruck-Kreis district) with population around 16,000. Boppard lies in the Rhine Gorge and is a state-recognized tourism resort and winegrowing center.

Boppard is characterized mainly via winegrowing, which was the first documentary mentioned in 643. With 75ha of planted vineyards, the city is the largest winegrowing center to be found in the Middle Rhine wine region. Here grow Riesling, Pinot noir and Müller-Thurgau. Along with the variety of other attractions in Boppard, winegrowing is the basis for the tourism industry of the town.

Outside the historic downtown lie a lot of commercial concerns, like Boppard-headquartered manufacturer BOMAG, with around 1,200 employees, cosmetics enterprise Sebapharma GmbH&Co. and software businesses.

Boppard is famous for its good Rhine wine and attracts tourists with dining and lodging businesses. From Boppard, excursion boats sail on the Rhine to Loreley and Rüdesheim along the prettiest stretch of whole Rhine Valley with its unique castles.

The museum of Boppard is housed in an old Electoral castle. There are exhibits on permanent display about the history of the town, the composer Engelbert Humperdinck, Michael Thonet and his bentwood furniture and other people linked with the history of the town. In November 2009, Boppard's museum was closed for 4 years for a thorough EUR 9 million renovation. The work on the castle building was financed mainly by the Federal world heritage program.
