Borgholm is a port town in Kalmar County, Sweden. It is located on Oland Island in Baltic Sea. The town covers a total area of approx 3 km2 (1 ml2) and has population around 3,000.
- Borgholm is one of Sweden's historical sites with former city status (stad). The town serves as centre of northern Oland and is among Sweden's most popular summer resort vacation destinations.
- The town is popular for its once-magnificent fortress that is currently ruined. Despite its small population, Borgholm is still referred to as a city. However, Swedish cities must have population over 10,000.
- The town is approx 20 km (12 ml) north of Oland Bridge which links the island with Kalmar (mainland Sweden). Borgholm was officially established in 1816 as a spa-settlement near the Borgholm Castle ruins, 10 years after the famous castle burned down. Its ruins are still Oland island's best known tourist attraction. Further south is the Halltorps Estate - Swedish royal property connected with Borgholm Castle.
- The Swedish Royal Family has its official summer residence at Solliden Palace - just outside Borgholm.
