Bourg, less formally known as "Bourg-sur-Gironde", is a Gironde River cruise port and village in France's Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (Gironde department) with population around 2,000.
Bourg-sur-Gironde is situated 15 km (9 mi) from Blaye, 30 km (19 mi) from Bordeaux and 40 km (25 mi) from Saint-Emilion, all listed by UNESCO. The historic village is near Gironde River's estuary, ideally located at the confluence of Garonne and Dordogne. Established during Roman times and fortified by the British, Bourg-sur-Gironde boasts a rich architectural tradition. Here, travelers will be able to see the home of Jean Bart, a legendary French corsair/pirate.
This charming village shelters many treasures like the Citadel castle with delightful gardens and a museum, still like in the days of horse-drawn carriages. Other worth-seeing places include the covered laundry of 1828, the surprising Moorish villa, the peaceful harbor or the many homes of the 18th century built with stones and adorned with masks and iron balconies.
Bourg is largely renowned for its vineyards and wine production, with some 3920 hectares of planted area (550+ farms) and an annual production of ~1200 hectoliters of white wine and ~220 000 hectoliters of red wine.
