Carloforte is a fishing port and resort town located on Italy's Isola di San Pietro (St Peter Island). It is approx 7 km (4 ml) off the southwestern coast Italy's Sardinia Island. The town covers a total area of approx 50 km2 (19 ml2) and has population around 6,000.

  • Carloforte's modern-day principal sources of revenue are tourism and commercial fishing.
  • The town has a number of beaches, which are both sandy and rocky. The resort is a popular summer vacation travel destination. On the island's other side is the functioning Capo Sandalo Lighthouse. It is automated and locally known simply as Il Faro. The structure dates to the 1880s.
  • Carloforte port has a long-standing wooden boatbuilding tradition. Locally built lateen sail fishing boats (aka luggers) can be spotted in the harbor. The town also features a maritime school.
  • To the north of Carloforte (at La Punta locale) are the buildings housing a tuna-processing plant. It is communally owned and connected to the island's former tuna fishing industry. Some of these buildings are home to the wind-surfing school and a privately owned (new) tuna processing business. However, others are still in ruins, but of great architectural interest.
  • Regularly scheduled ferries connect Carloforte port with Sardinia Island (at Portovesme and Calasetta) and with a fishing port on Sant'Antioco Island.
