Charlestown is the principal port (cargo and cruise port) and the capital city of Nevis Island in the Lesser Antilles (Leeward Islands, West Indies, Caribbean), with population around 12,000.  Nevis and the neighboring St Kitts Island form the British dependency "Saint Kitts and Nevis", with capital city Basseterre (on St Kitts).

Most of Nevis' population resides in Charlestown. Port Charlestown has locode KNCHA. Cruise ships to Nevis Island anchor in open sea and transport their passengers to Port's pier via tender boats.

Nevis Island is approx 80 km (50 mi) west of Antigua and 350 km (215 mi) southeast of Puerto Rico. By area (93 km2 / 36 mi2) and population (around 55,000) this country is ranked the Western Hemisphere's smallest nation.

Both islands (Nevis and St Kitts) are separated by a 3-km (2 mi) wide shallow channel. On Nevis Island's western and northern coastlines are lined up beautiful beaches with white coral sand mixed with black and brown sand (washed down from volcanic rocks).
