Cordoba is a Guadalquivir River cruise port and the capital city of Andalusia (autonomous state in southern Spain). The city has population around 330,000 and also has Córdoba has Europe's second largest Old Town in Europe (after Prague) - an urban area declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cordoba was founded by the Romans, then colonized by the Muslims (8th century) to become Cordoba Caliphate's capital. During the Muslim rule, the city had hundreds of workshops and many libraries, medical schools, universities. In 1236 it was captured by Christian armies (King Ferdinand III) during the Spanish Reconquista.

City's architecture is marked by Roman walls (with only 3 gates remaining from all 13), Roman Bridge (over the river), Roman Temple, Theatre, Mausoleum, Forum, amphitheater, Mezquita (Great Mosque), the Mills of the Guadalquivir, Medina Azahara (archaeological site with well-preserved Spanish-Muslim architecture), Caliphal Baths, Jewish Quarter, Plaza del Potro, 12 Christian churches (many are reconstructed mosques), 10 statues of Archangel Raphael (city's protector), numerous gardens, nature parks, museums.

High-speed trains directly link Cordoba with Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Málaga and Zaragoza, wit hover 20 dailyy connections, The city is also connected via highways with Portugal.
