Dessau-Rosslau is an Elbe River cruise port and city in Germany's Saxony-Anhalt state (Sachsen-Anhalt district), with population around 80,000. The town is located at the confluence of Elbe and Mulde rivers, and was formed in 2007 as merger of Dessau (industrial town) and Rosslau. By population (over 80,000) the town is ranked state's 3rd largest - following Magdeburg (state's capital) and Halle.
In Dessau live most of the population. The town is on Mulde River's left bank. The settlement was first mentioned in early-13th-century. Between 1863-1918, the town was the capital of Anhalt state. Rosslau is on Elbe River's right bank, located approx 7 km (4 ml) north of downtown Dessau.
