Dundee is a major North Sea port and city in Scotland, located on the north bank of Tay RIver. By population (around 150,000) the city is ranked Scotland's 4th-largest (after Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen). By total area (approx 60 km2 / 20 mi2) it is ranked UK's 51st-most-populous, with population density 2480 / km2 (6420 / mi2).

Following the Coronavirus crisis, in 2022, Port Dundee (locode GBDUN) handled only 4 cruise ship calls. In 2023, the cruise port had scheduled 14 ship calls (booked berthings). Season 2023 started on May 13th with the ship Ambassador Ambition.

Historically, Dundee is of Angus (Aonghas) - one of Scotland's 32 local government council regions. In medieval times the town developed into a burgh and rapidly expanded (mainly in the 19th- century) because of the jute industry (vegetable fiber). The recorded population reached a peak of 182,200 in 1971.

Today, Dundee is promoted "One City, Many Discoveries" honoring its history of scientific activities and RRS Discovery - Robert Falcon Scott's ship built here and today berthed in the harbour. Technological and biomedical industries developed since the 1980s. The city currently accounts for 10% of the UK's digital entertainment industry. In 2014, Dundee became the UK's first "UNESCO City of Design" due to its diverse contributions to fields like medical research, video games, comics.

Once noted for its journalists, jam and jute, Dundee remains the world's marmalade capital. Best-known attractions are the Maritime and Whaling Museum and the ship RRS Discovery (used on UK's 1st Antarctic expedition 1901-1904). To the north of the town is Macbeth's Glamis Castle (birthplace and childhood home of Queen Mother / 1900-2002). Also in that region are Brechin Round Tower (built by Irish monks) and Edzell Castle with its splendid gardens. To the northeast are the remains of Dunnottar Castle and Arbroath Abbey's ruins. In Broughty Ferry (village to the east) is the Claypotts Castle. To the south is Saint Andrews - one of Scotland's most historic towns.
