Dunkirk (Dunkerque) is an English Channel cruise and ferry port and city in northern France, with population around 90,000. The port is located approx 10 km (6 mi) from the France-Belgium border.

Dunkerque has France's 3rd largest harbour (after Le Havre-Paris and Marseille-Fos). City's economy is based on industries like steel, food processing, shipbuilding, oil-refining, chemicals. Main tourist attractions ar ethe museums Musee Portuaire (themed on the seaport) and Musee des Beaux-Arts (paintings and sculptures).

As ferry port, Dunkirk is served by the Danish company DFDS SEAWAYS with regularly scheduled daily crossings to Dover England. Currently, the Dunkirk-Dover route is served by the ships Delft SeawaysDover Seaways and Dunkerque Seaways. City's public transportation was free only during weekends, but since September 2018 is provided free of charge every weekday.

Ferry travel is convenient as it is regular, fast and without any baggage restrictions. Adding the convenience to travel with your own vehicle, ferries are the perfect option for shopping vacations from UK to France. DFDS' English Channel crossings are day and night, with flexible tickets also available.

Dunkirk LNG import terminal was opened in January 2017 and serves LNG carriers. The LNG Terminal has annual capacity 13 billion m3 of LNG (liquefied natural gas) which is ~1/5 of France and Belgium’s LNG demand.

On January 8, 2020, at Port Dunkirk's Terminal des Flandres was inaugurated the shore-to-ship power facility. Shoreside power (aka "cold ironing") allows berthed vessels to be provided with electricity from the city's grid, instead of running their gensets (auxiliary diesel engines).
