Durnstein is a Danube River cruise port in Austria, located in the Krems-Land district (Lower Austria). This small town is named after the Burgruine Durnstein castle and has a population of around 1,000. Durnstein is the cruise port to Krems, making it among the Wachau region's most visited river travel destinations.
Among the land excursions offered from Durnstein is visiting a vineyard in Krems for sampling locally-made white wines (including award-winning Riesling wines). Krems is also a well known producer of the apricot brandy Marillenschnaps. Krems city touring offers mostly medieval architecture.
