Edfu (aka Idfu) is a Nile River cruise port and city in Egypt, located between Aswan and Esna, on the river's west bank. Edfu has population around 60,000 and is famous for the Temple of Horus and the Tell Edfu settlement.

The remains of seven ancient pyramids are located approx 5 km (3 mi) north of Edfu, along the Nile Valley and near the Naga el-Goneima village.

The ancient Tell Edfu settlement (~50 m / 160 ft to the west of the temple) was known as Wetjeset-hor (Egyptian), Apollinopolis/Apollonopolis Magna (Greek), and Apollo Superior (Latin).

Facing the river is Edfu's Temple of Horus, built from large sandstone blocks during Cleopatra's reign (51-30 BC).

This is Egypt's most completely preserved temple.

Major international cruise lines with itineraries visiting Edfu include Avalon Waterways (ship Farah), APT-AmaWaterways (ship AmaDahlia), Movenpick Hotels (ship Darakum), Viking Cruises (ship Viking Osiris).
