Eidfjord is a municipality in the Norwegian Hordaland county. The municipality is situated in the traditional district of Hardanger. Its administrative center is the village of Eidfjord, where the majority of the population lives. The other major population center is the village of Ovre Eidfjord.
Eidfjord is located at the end of Eidfjorden, an inner branch of the big Hardangerfjorden. The village of Eidfjord is a prime cruise ship port of call. Eidfjord has some tourist sites, like Sima Power Plant that is built into the mountain itself, Mabodalen Valley, and Voringsfossen Waterfall which has a free fall of 597 ft (182 m). Large parts of Hardangervidda (Europe's biggest mountain plateau) are situated in Eidfjord. The Hardangervidda Natursenter, visitors centre and museum for Hardangervidda National Park, is situated in Ovre Eidfjord.
In 2023, Eidfjord plans to introduce shoreside electricity/power supply for cruise vessels. Eidfjord's Simakraft Hydropower Station is one of Norway's main suppliers of hydroelectricity.
