Falmouth UK is a port town located on Fal River, on the southern coast of Cornwall (England). The town has population of around 27,000. Falmouth is Cornwall's largest shipping/cargo port with regularly-scheduled freight shipping traffic. The harbor is also popular as port of call for small cruise companies with smaller-sized vessels.

While the maritime activity of Port Falmouth has much declined, the docks are still an important contributor to town's economy. Falmouth Harbour, together with Carrick Roads, forms world's 3rd deepest natural harbor waterway and is ranked Europe's deepest harbor. It has been the start/finish point of many round-the-world cruises, including those of Dame Ellen MacArthur and Robin Knox-Johnson. During WW2 (1939-1945), the US Navy had a base in the harbour and an army base in the town.

With its Georgian houses converted into small hotels and guest houses (usually overlooking the beaches), Falmouth is a popular holiday travel (short-break) destination and a resort town. Its 5 main beaches start next to Pendennis Castle and move along the coast towards Helford River. They are named Castle, Gyllyngvase, Maenporth, Swanpool, and Tunnel. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall was inaugurated in February 2003.

In April 2017, the UK-based Fred Olsen Cruise Line announced the company will pull its ships out of Falmouth UK. The decision was partly based on the cruise port's lack of dedicated cruising facilities.

  • Fred Olsen Cruises started using port Falmouth UK as turaround port (of departure) in 2016, but decided it's not suitable. Fred Olsen also withdrew its vessels' departures from all 5 UK ports (including Falmouth England) for season 2018-2019.
  • Fred Olsen used to run 2 Falmouth roundtrip itineraries a year - a 12-night itinerary (to Canary Islands and Portugal, themed adults only) and a 10-night itinerary Around Britain. Both cruises were operated by the 880-passenger ship Boudicca.

There are plans for building a dedicated cruise ship terminal in Falmouth UK. When constructed, the facility will allow the port to handle larger vessels. However, these plans include dredging of the harbour, which the UK's Marine Management Organisation has the final say whether to grant permission for the harbor dredging. These works include digging up around 700,000 tons of silt from the seabed.

The port authority "A&P Falmouth" manages the dockyard and have always maintained that dredging must happen in order for the business to survive and move forward.
