Farsund is a North Sea (Baltic Sea) port town and municipality in Norway's Vest-Agder county (Lister district) with population around 10,000. The cruise port is located between Stavanger and Kristiansand. Municipality's nearest "scenic cruise" destinations are the Norwegian fjords Fedafjorden and Listafjorden (along its northwestern side) and Lyngdalsfjorden (in its eastern part). Two lighthouses are located in the west (Lista) and in the south (Sondre Katland).
Farsund was founded in the late-18th-century (1795) and officially received its town status in 1838. It became a municipality in 1965 when Farsund was merged with 3 neighbouring municipalities (Herad, Lista, Spind). Town's current-day economy is based on industries like aluminium, shipping, commercial fishing, agriculture. Town's largest employers are Alcoa Lista (owned by the US-based Alcoa Corporation) and Farsund Aluminium Casting (1996-founded as subsidiary of Alcoa). In 2012, Farsund Aluminium was purchased (now fully-owned) by BAF-Benteler Automotive GmbH. The German company produces aluminium auto parts. The municipality has agricultural land 26 km2 (10 mi2 / district's largest), forests 88 km2 (34 mi2) and freshwater areas 11 km2 (4 mi2).
In the period 1955-2002, Farsund had an airport (located on Lista Peninsula) serving regularly-scheduled domestic flights linking to Stavanger, Bergen and Oslo. The airport was built in 1940 by the Germans (during WW2 / 1939-45). After the war, the facility was managed by Luftforsvaret (Norwegian Air Force). Today, the privatized airport is used as an industrial storage area and serves only minor general aviation traffic.
Best-known tourist attractions include Farsund Harbour (ranked among Norway's best, with a large yacht Marina serving luxury yachts and pleasure boats during summer), Strandmila (cross-country trailing along Lister's beaches and forests) and Kaperdagene (pirate-themed annual festival held in July). As resort vacation destination, Farsund is visited mainly by Norwegians and during summer.
As cruise port, Farsund in 2020 was included in the schedule of the 2018-built liner Seabourn Ovation. Next table shows the 14-day itinerary (themed "North Cape and Majestic Fjords") roundtrip from homeport Copenhagen.

Farsund cruise terminal
Cruise ships to Farsund dock at a dedicated deepwater pier (at Farsund Marina) located at close proximity (~10-min walking distance) from downtown. Port Farsund maintains 1 cruise ship per day policy.
For season 2020, the cruise port lifted its vessel size restrictions (max LOA length 230 m / 755 ft) thus allowing even world's biggest liners to enter the harbor waterway. This was accomplished by removing underwater reefs and adding new navigation aids.
