Fishguard is ferry port and town in Pembrokeshire (Wales). The town (population around 3,500) is divided into Main Town (Fishguard) and Lower Town. The port is located where Gwaun River flows into the Irish Sea.
Fishguard (ferry port Goodwick) is in southwestern Wales. The Port is easily accessible from Cardiff (via road M4 from London to Carmarthenshire).
Fishguard Harbour (port locode GBFIS) is in a beautiful bay encircled by the 186-mi/30-km long coastal path (part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park) and protected by ywo breakwaters/wals. Upon entering Fishguard Bay, the Port is to portside/left while Goodwick is to starboard/right.
The ferry route Ireland-Wales (Rosslare-Fishguard / crossing time 3,5 hours) is currently operated with 14 weekly crossings by the ship Stena Europe.
As cruise port, Fishguard is visited mainly by smaller-sized luxury ships from premium cruise travel brands like Silversea, Seabourn, Hapag-Lloyd, RSSC-Regent, Windstar. Larger liners visiting Fishguard are from the fleets of AIDA, TUI, Oceania, Hurtigruten Expeditions.
Fishguard cruise terminal
A dedicated berth serves larger cruise ships' tender boats while the vessels themselves are moored/anchored within the Port. A separate alongside berth is dedicated to expedition-type passenger ships with max LOA-length 560 ft/170 m.
The Port's draught restriction is 19 ft/5,5 m. Within the port area, there are road and railway connections to all parts of the UK. The regular train service comes right into the Port.
Fishguard's cruise season runs between April and October, during which period the Port has a pontoon dedicated to the passenger disembarkation/embarkation process. At the Port, disembarking tourists are welcomed with traditional Welsh performances provided by local people.
For berthing/docking at Fishguard, the Port requires a 24-hour advance notice from the visiting vessels.
The cruise port provides all standard shipping services, including waste disposal, ISPS/International Ship and Port Facility Security, bunkering/fueling, freshwater supply, and stevedoring. A shuttle bus service to downtown is also provided.
A regularly scheduled ferry service (by STENA LINE) connects Fishguard with Rosslare Europort (Ireland). The ferry terminal is not in Fishguard but at Goodwick (approx 1 mi / 1,5 km west of Fishguard). In 2013, the MS Stena Europe ferry started 2 crossings per day each way (one daily and one nightly), with crossing time 3,5 hours/one-way.
Fishguard Ferry Terminal's facilities and amenities/services include the Motorist Lounge, Coffee Shop, indoor kids playground, baby changing rooms, public restrooms (including disabled toilets designed for passengers with physical disabilities), a short parking area (adjacent to the terminal building) long parking area (approx 500ft/150 m outside the terminal).
Car parking prices start from just GBP 8 per day.
In late April 2018, STENA LINE announced that its Fishguard Ferry Terminal would be closed for up to 3 months due to construction works. The GBP 5 million project included the replacement of the mechanized bridge (connecting the ferries with the dock, and works started in February 2019. By this project, the company replaced the Linkspan (ship-to-shore) connection allowing vehicles to board or disembark the ship at different tide heights. Construction companies started tendering for construction contracts.
