Flensburg is a port city located in the north of Germany's Schleswig-Holstein state. It is the state's 3rd largest - after Lubeck and Kiel. Largest neighboring cities are Kiel Germany (86 km / 53 mi to the south) and Odense Denmark (92 km / 57 ml to the northeast). The city has population around 85,000, and is approx 7 km (4 mi) away from the Germany-Denmark border.
At the end of WW2 (1939-1945), the city became Nazi Germany's last government site (between May 1st and 8th), until all German armies surrendered). The Nazi regime was officially dissolved on May 23rd.
Among Flensburg's main tourist attractions are the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt database (Germany's traffic violators), Flensburger Pilsener (Flens beer), the center of Danish minority in Germany, Murwik's Naval Academy (with its Gorch Fock sailing ship used for training).
