Grande Soeur Island (aka Big Sister Island, and East Sister Island) is part of the Seychelles archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The isle is private and located north of La Digue Island. Grande Soeur, together with the smaller Petite Soeur, are part of Iles Soeurs (Sister Islands).
Covered with tropical forests, Grande Soeur has total area 0,8 km2 (0,3 mi2), coastline approx 5 km (3 mi) and highest elevation point 113 m (371 ft). During the 20th century, there was a little coconut plantation on it.
Big Sister Island is privately owned, purchased in 2005 by Chateau de Feuilles Hotel (Praslin Island). It is often visited by hotel's guests, and mainly for scuba diving and snorkeling. After the purchase, a helipad (helicopter landing platform) was built, as well as several villas for overnight stays.
As Seychelles are blessed with a year-round warm, tropical climate, it is always a good time for snorkeling, diving and swimming. The water temperature often reaches 27 C and the visibility is 30+ m (100+ ft). Located a few minutes' walk from the hotel is the white-sand beach Anse Marie-Louise.
Cruise ships to Grande Soeur dock/anchor at Baie Sainte Anne - port town on the southeastern coast of Praslin Island.
