Happy Valley-Goose Bay NL (Newfoundland-Labrador Canada)

Happy Valley-Goose Bay (Vali) is a port town in Canada's Newfoundland and Labrador province, with population around 8,000 (~45% are the indigenous Inuit and Metis people, ~50% are Euro-Canadians). The port is on Goose Bay (accessed via Lake Melville, all docks are at Terrington Basin and operated by Transport Canada) while the town Happy Valley is at the mouth of Churchill River.

During summer, regularly scheduled weekly ferries (leaving roundtrip from Vali) interlink Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale, Natuashish, Nain, and also with Cartwright. Shipping routes (including container ship services) link to seaports in Newfoundland and Montreal. As cruise port, Happy Valley-Goose Bay is visited by smaller-sized (expedition type) ships and ice-strengthened superyachts.

The town (incorporated in 1973) consists of Happy Valley (1941-founded, during Worl War II/1939-45) and the Goose Bay District. Vali is best known for housing one of North America's largest military air stations - the Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay (aka CFB Goose Bay) with one of the world's longest runways (3,4 km / 11046 ft). CFB Goose Bay (aka Goose Bay Airport) is operated by and mainly serves RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) but its airfield is also used by non-military aircraft.

The road connection between Happy Valley and Goose Bay (Routes 510-520) is part of TLH/Trans-Labrador Highway (total length 714 mi / 1149 km), connecting Happy Valley-Goose Bay (northern terminus) with Quebec City (southern terminus). TLH also links Vali with Labrador City and Baie-Comeau.

Goose Bay Airport serves civilian flights (operated by the Canadian regional carriers Air Borealis, PAL Airlines, Air Canada Express) that link the town with NL's airports Hopedale, Makkovik, Nain, Natuashish, Postville, St John's, St Anthony, Wabush, Deer Lake, Gander, as well as with Blanc-Sablon (Cote-Nord, Quebec).
