Harsova (Romania)

Harsova is a Danube River cruise port and town in Romania's Constanta County, with a population of around 10,000.

The settlement was founded by the Romans (as Carsium) as part of Empire's province Scythia Minor. Under its current name (Hirsova) the town was first mentioned in 1853 in the British daily newspaper "The Times" (aka "The London Times"). Town's best-known tourist attraction are the ruins of Carsium (1st-century-built tower overlooking the river), Dimitrie cel Nou Biserica (church serving Romanian Lipovans - Old Believers, mostly of Russian origin), the ruins of Capidava (Calidava - a major Romans fortress built in the 1st-century AD and abandoned in the 9th).
