Honningsvag is a port city (Norway's northernmost) located on Mageroya Island (Nordkapp, Finnmark County). The town has population around 2,500, so for it was made an exception from the country's legislation requiring a minimum of 5,000 inhabitants for Norwegian city status.

Honningsvag is located at a bay on the southeastern side of the island. The renowned Nordkapp ("North Cape") and its visitors center is on the island's northern side. The port is visited by cruise ships mainly in the summer. The local fishing industry is based on the ice-free waters in the southwestern part of Barents Sea. Tourism is another important to the city industry.

The distance from Honningsvag to Nordkapp (in the southern direction) is 34 km (21 mi), which is approx 30-min bus drive. The "midnight sun" (Arctic Circle) natural phenomenon is when the sun remains visible at midnight. It occurs here in the period May 14 through July 29. This phenomenon is often advertised by cruise companies on Arctic-themed cruise itineraries.

Honningsvag cruise terminal

The cruise port is in downtown. In close proximity from the pier are the town's main shops, bars, restaurants.

The port has a total of 6 docking piers (including 2 tender piers), all of which are located within 5-min walking distance from the town's center. Occasionally, larger-sized cruise ships are anchored and their passengers are transported to the piers via the ship's tender boats.

As the principal port for North Cape, Honningsvag handles annually 100+ cruise ship calls. In 2022 it was visited 134 times, and in 2023 had scheduled 184 cruise ship calls/booked berthings.

The Port currently has three cruise quays. These docks range in length from 70 to 155 m (230-509 ft) and have water depths between 5,7-12 m (20-40 ft). Anchored cruise vessels are served by two tender piers. All cruise shipping facilities are with parking areas (for tour buses) and within a short walking distance from downtown.

The Port has one berth able to accommodate larger cruise vessels - with max LOA length 360 m (1181 ft). The second/new tender pier is approx 2 km (1 mi) from the anchorage zone. The facility (inaugurated in May 2023) cost ~NOK 1,5 million (~EUR 140,000).

For cruise tourists, the Port provides information, two souvenir shops, public restrooms, free WiFi.

Honningsvag is also one of the ferry ports along the "Express Route" - Norway's Government subsidized "Norwegian Coastal Express". This is a regularly scheduled passenger and cargo shipping service in Norway. The "ferry and cruise" itinerary is between two turnaround ports - Bergen (southmost) and Kirkenes (northmost). It connects a total of 34 ports, which are Norwegian communities without any road or air access.

Since January 2021, Norway's coastal ferry service is operated by two companies - Hurtigruten (7 ships) and Havila Shipping (4 ships). The Norwegian Government's annual subsidy for the ferry service is around USD 100 million.

The list of all ports along the northbound "Norwegian Coastal Express" itinerary includes Bergen (turnaround port), Alesund, Floro, Geiranger (Stranda), Maloy (Vagsoy), Molde, Torvik (Heroy, Leinoya Island), Kristiansund, Rorvik (Vikna), Trondheim, Bodo, Bronnoysund (Bronnoy), Nesna, Ornes (Meloy), Sandnessjoen (Alstahaug), Stamsund (Vestvagoy Island), Svolvaer (Vagan, Austvagoya Island), Trollfjorden (Hadsel), Finnsnes (Lenvik), Harstad (Hinnoya Island), Risoyhamn (Andoy Island), Skjervoy, Sortland (Langoya Island), Stokmarknes (Hadseloya Island), Tromso, Berlevag, Hammerfest, Honningsvag (Mageroya Island), Nordkapp / North Cape), Kjollefjord (Lebesby), Mehamn (Gamvik), Oksfjord (Loppa), Batsfjord, Vardo (Vardoya Island), Kirkenes (turnaround port).
