Hurghada is a Red Sea cruise port and a major coastal resort city in Eastern Egypt with population around 260,000. Hurghada is one of Egypt's main resort hubs on the Red Sea coast.
The development of the tourism industry started in the 1980s, following major domestic and foreign investments in hotels and holiday resort infrastructure, including premium watersports facilities serving popular leisure activities like windsurfing, kitesurfing, yachting, snorkeling and scuba diving. Hurghada is also well-known for its top-rated nightlife.
Hurghada Port's locode is EGHRG.
Hurghada's coastline has length approx 36 km (22 mi). As a resort vacation destination, the city is visited mainly by domestic tourists (predominantly from Egypt's capital Cairo) and also European tourists (mainly during the holidays). Hurghada is divided into 6 districts - El Ahia, El Helal, El Dahar (downtown, bazaar), Sekalla (city center), El Kawsar (the most modern) and El Memsha (a 4 km long esplanade/seafront promenade street).
As a cruise port, Hurghada was extensively included in the schedule of the superyacht Le Ponant (owned by Ponant). The luxury yacht's 2019-2020 season (December 14 through March 31) was based on roundtrip departures from homeport Aqaba (Jordan) with included overnight hotel stay in Eilat (Israel).
