Iquitos (aka Iquitos City) is a Peruvian Amazon River cruise port located in the most remote part of Peru. The city is the commercial center for the surrounding areas, also a major oil production and an international tourist destination. Iquitos port is considered one of the world's furthest inland waterway ports of major size, also accessible by ocean-going cruise ships.

The metro city covers a total area of approx 1213 km2 (469 ml2) ranking it Peruvian Amazon's largest metropolis and the country's 6th most populous city - with population around 440,000. Often called "capital of the Peruvian Amazon", Iquitos is surrounded by the rivers Nanay, Itaya and Amazon.

Iquitos is also famous for being the world's largest city inaccessible by road. It can be reached only by boat or airplane. The only exception is the road to the small town of Nauta, roughly 100 km (62 ml) to the south, which is not connected to Peru's road network. Ocean cruise ships with max draft 5,5 m (18 ft) can reach Iquitos via Amazon River. The distance from the Atlantic ocean is over 3600 km (2200 ml).

Popular attractions include Iron House (Plaza de Armas), that was designed by Eiffel, also the Belen waterfront district, museum. Popular excursions are Lake Quistococha, the Bellavista beach, river and Jungle tours. Iquitos was founded in 1863 in an area first settled by the Conquistadors (16th century) and later defeated by Christian missionaries (17th-18th centuries).
