Jost Van Dyke Island (aka JVD) is BVI's smallest (among the 4 main British Virgin Islands), with land area 8 km2 (3 mi2) and population under 500. It is located in Caribbean Sea, approx 8 km (5 mi) north of St John Island (USVI and 8 km (5 mi) northwest of Tortola (BVI).

Like many neighboring islands, Jost Van Dyke is mountainous and volcanic in origin, with highest elevation point (Majohnny Hill) 321 m (1053 ft). The island is accessible by private boats and ferries from St Thomas (USVI), St John (USVI) and Tortola. The primary tourist destination is Belle Vue (Great Harbour), which beach is lined up with small restaurants and bars.

Belle Vue is among BVI's busiest ports: in 2008, nearly 7000 boats and yachts docked at the harbor. it is common for boaters to anchor off the beaches and swim to shore, paying for drinks with wet cash.

Most Cruise ships to Jost Van Dyke Island dock at Road Town (southern Tortola) and transport their passengers to Jost Van Dyke via the ship's tender boats. JVD is also offered as shore excursion option from Tortola

In 2023, BVIPA (British Virgin Islands Ports Authority) announced a record year with a total of 720392 cruise tourists, or 3% increase over the previous record year 2016 (699105 cruisers). In 2023, In 2023, BVI handled a total of 354 cruise ship calls, of which 232x at Tortola Cruise Ship Pier and the remaining 122x were ships handled at anchorage sites across the BVI (9x at Road Harbour/Tortola, 56x off Jost Van Dyke, 38x off Virgin Gorda Island, and 19x other).
