The shore excursions offered in Kitty Hawk are themed on Wright Brothers' powered aircraft named by them Wright Flyer (aka "1903 Flyer"). The world's first airplane was designed and built by the Wright brothers (Orville and Wilbur). With the vessel, they successfully conducted 4x flights on December 17, 1903 (each brother piloted 2 flights) near Kill Devil Hills - approx 4 mi (6 km) south of Kitty Hawk NC. Today, the Wright Flyer is exhibited in Washington DC's National Air and Space Museum.
