Koh Kood Island (aka Koh Kut) has some of Thailand's best beaches and stunning scenery with jungles and waterfalls. As all roads are not maintained, the best way to explore the island is by scooter.The island has length 25 Km (16 mi), width 12 Km (8 mi), population around 2,500 and total area of 162 km2 (63 mi2), ranking it Thailand's 5th largest.
Pick up truck taxis are available for island tours. Koh Ut Island has no towns, but 4 village-type areas functioning as fishing communities. Main settlement is Klong Hin Dam (west coast) where can be found hospital, police and government offices. Island's eastern part is inaccessible. Main beaches are along the west-south coasts. Best beaches are Klong Chao and Ao Noi.
There are also bars, restaurants, shops, hotels (Sand and Sea, Gumm Lonely Club), beach resorts (Tinkerbell, High Season Pool Villa, Shantaa), bungalow resorts (Mangrove Bungalows, I-Lay House, Jungle Koh Kood Resort).
Three local companies provide snorkelling and diving tours (BB Divers, Koh Kood Divers, Paradise Divers), offering PADI courses and scenic boat trips. Prices are inclusive of equipment and onboard lunch.
Passenger ferries to Koh Kut depart from Laem Sok Pier (Trat, mainland Thailand). Ferry service is provided by the companies Boonsiri Ferry, Koh Kood Princess and Ko Kut Express. Boats run daily and the whole year-round, with reduced departures in May-October.
