Koh Mak Island Thailand

Koh Mak Island (aka Ko Mak) is part of Thailand's Trat Province (Ko Kut District) located approx 35 km (22 mi) from mainland Thailand. By land area (16 km2 / 6 mi2).

Ko Mak is ranked Trat Province's 3rd largest - after Koh Chang (30 km to the northwest) and Koh Kut-Kood (20 km to the southeast). The island has population around 800, coastline 27 km (17 mi), long white-sand beaches, forested hills, temple, school, market, 2 clinics (1 general, 1 private), two villages - Baan Ao Nid (southeast) and Ban Laem Son (northwest). During low tide, Koh Mak and the nearby Koh Kham (approx 1 km to the northwest) become land-connected.

Ko Mak is flat and lined up with coconut plantations and mangrove trees. The island has numerous resorts (on the northwestern coast) and several camping sites for backpackers. Via rented sea-kayaks and speed boats, from Koh Mak can be accessed Koh Kham and Koh Phi - both popular as premium snorkelling and scuba diving destinations.

Koh Mak is very popular among domestic tourists as "Family Island" - lacking nightclubs and alcohol bars. The island has 4 large resorts (Seavana, Koh Mak, Lazy Day, Big Easy), also smaller resorts, guesthouses and camping sites with bungalows.
