Konigswinter is a Rhine River cruise port and summer resort town in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis district) with population around 41,000. The town is on the river's right bank, located opposite to Bad Godesberg (district of Bonn).

Rising behind the town, Drachenfels (hill lin Siebengebirge) is crowned by the ruins of an early-12th-century castle built by the archbishop of Koln/Cologne. From the summit, accessed by Drachenfels Railway, there is a superb scenery view area. The cave in the hill is said to have sheltered the dragon, killed by the hero Siegfried. From 1267 onward the mountain supplied stone for the building of Cologne Cathedral. On the north side of the hill is Schloss Drachenburg (1883-built).

Petersberg mountain also overlooks Konigswinter. Formerly, it was the home of an Augustinian and Cistercian monastery. Around 1195 the monks founded the Abbey of Heisterbach, destroyed in 1803. Its ruins can still be seen. The peak of the Petersberg is now occupied by Hotel Petersberg, which serves as a guest house for the German Government. As the Petersberg Railway closed in 1958, the hotel is today reached by road or helicopter.

On cruise shore excursions/bus tours from Konigswinter can be visited Burg Satzvey (12th-century moated castle), then the tourists rejoin their riverboat in Cologne.
