Bangkok's cruise port Laem Chabang serves the capital city of Thailand. Bangkok City is located in the country's center, near Gulf of Thailand, covering Chao Phraya River's both banks. Laem Chabang's population is around 90,000, Bangkok's population is over 1,57 million (metro over 14,6 million).
Port Laem Chabang (locode THBKK) also serves as one of the major stops on the coastal highway linking Pattaya and Bangkok through Sukhumvit Road.
In 2017, for the first time ever, Port Laem Chabang became homeport for a premium cruise ship. Costa Cruises (Costa Asia) had here the company's first-ever turnaround/homeporting season with the 2400-passenger liner Costa Victoria. The ship was based here in January 2017 for roundtrip itineraries around the Thailand Gulf. The ship arrived on January 11, 2017, from Singapore. Until January 25th, Costa Victoria operated 3x 4-night itineraries visiting Koh Samui Island, Sihanoukville Cambodia and Phu Quoc Island Vietnam. Followed a 4-night relocation cruise to Shanghai (China).
Also in 2017, Star Cruises (GHK-owned brand) announced a new Laem Chabang homeport deployment for SuperStar Gemini, scheduled between December 17, 2017, and April 27, 2018. During its homeporting, SuperStar Gemini operated a roundtrip 3-night / 4-day itinerary visiting Sihanoukville and Ko Samui (Sunday departures), 2-night / 3-day itinerary to Sihanoukville (Wednesday departures) and 2-night / 3-day itinerary to Koh Kong Island (Friday departures).
Bangkok's two international airports combined serve 85+ million passengers annually. This makes Port Laem Chabang a perfect destination for fly-cruises and exotic cruisetours.
Laem Chabang cruise terminal
The larger ships dock at Laem Chabang International Terminal. It is situated 30 minutes away from Pattaya, direction North, and an hour and a half away from Bangkok, direction Southeast. The Bangkok cruise port terminal offers food and beverage kiosks, information center for the passengers, bus service, taxi, gift and souvenir shop, duty free zone.
It is recommended to use bus instead of the very expensive taxi services. You will reach the city center for hour and a half.
Khlong Thoey
Smaller cruise ships use Khlong Thoey (also spelled Klong Toey, Khlong Toei), the second Bangkok cruise port terminal. It is in service since 1947 and was the main cruise port until 1991. Khlong Thoey is close to the city center but still not so close to walk.
