Lahnstein is a Lahn River/Rhine River cruise port and town in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis district) with population around 18,000. The town is at the confluence of the rivers Lahn and Rhine, and located approx 6 km (4 mi) south of Koblenz. The town was created in 1969 as a merger between two independent towns - Oberlahnstein and Niederlahnstein.

Town's current-day economy is largely based on tourism and recreation, with several large spa facilities and thermal baths. Due to its strategic location on the Rhine River, during the Middle Ages, the town was heavily fortified. Among its best-known attractions is the Lahneck Castle (above Oberlahnstein) built in the mid-13th-century as a residence of Mainz's Archbishop-Electors (aka Kurmainz - one of the most influential states of the Holy Roman Empire / 800-1806 AD). Other landmarks include Martinsburg Castle (in Oberlahnstein), Allerheiligenbergkapelle (church), Johanneskloster (St John's Abbey), St Barbara Kirche (14th-century church), Wirtshaus a der Lahn (17th-century inn/tavern), Friedrichssegen (former mining village, approx 5 km east from downtown). Lahnstein is also a well-known destination for climbing and hiking.

As cruise port, Lahnstein is often included in the schedule of one of the world's largest river cruise companies - AmaWaterways. Company's 2019 itinerary program with calls at Lahnstein included ships AmaSerena, AmaDante, AmaPrima, AmaKristina, AmaViola, AmaStella.
