Le Marin is a port town in Martinique (one of France's overseas territories in the Caribbean). The town has total area approx 32 km2 (12 mi2) and population around 9,000. Le Marin is also one of Martinique Island's two sub-prefectures (together with La Trinite). The other cruise ports in Martinique are Fort-de-France and Les Anses d'Arlet.
IMPORTANT: Since January 2020, all cruise ship passengers booked on roundtrip itineraries from US ports (including San Juan Puerto Rico) that visit Martinique ports need for boarding passport books (not passport cards or birth certificates). Passport books are required for both adults and minors and must be valid for at least 6 months after the voyage ends.
Amateur yachtsmen know Le Marin Marina as the best mooring spot on the island. The biennial festival (held in August) features street dancing, live concerts, food tastings and art exhibits. Eglise du Marin (18th-century church) was built by Jesuits and is among country's prettiest historic monuments.
A popular cruise excursion is Martinique Panorama. Travelers leave Le Marin for scenic coastal drive along island's southwestern coast (through Trois-Ilets). The tour includes guided visit to Pagerie, where Empress Josephine (1763-1814) spent her childhood. The trip goes to Le Francois, where cruise tourists visit a well-maintained plantation house with original furniture and an authentic rum distillery.
