Linz am Rhein is a Rhine River cruise port and town in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate state (Neuwied district) with population around 6,000. The town is located on the river's right bank and near Remagen and Bonn (approx. 25 km / 16 mi to southwest). The town is located about halfway between Cologne and Koblenz. The best-known tourist attractions are the picturesque riverside scenery and downtown's traditionally-built half-timbered houses.

The town was founded (as Lincesce) in the mid-9th-century. In the early-14th-century (1304-1332) the town received city rights by Heinrich II of Virneburg (Archbishop of Cologne) and soon after the Burg Linz Castle was constructed. A major fire in 1391 destroyed nearly 2/3 of the town. The church was built in 1214, the town hall - in 1517, the hospital - in 1979. Linz was annexed by Prussia in 1815 and received its district town status (Kreisstadt) in 1816. In 1946 (after WW2 / 1939-1945) it became part the German state Rhineland-Palatinate.

As cruise port, Linz am Rhein is included in the regular schedule of the German cruisetour company Phoenix Reisen. Next table shows Calypso ship's 9-day itinerary as ports sequence. Prices start from ~USD 1600 per person (double occupancy rates).
