Lipari Island is the largest of Aeolian Islands in Tyrrhenian Sea. It is located in southern Italy, off Sicily Island's northern coast. Lipari is also the name of island's main port town (on the east coast), with population around 13,000. The island is part of Messina metro area. Peak tourist season is May-September.

Lipari is one of the seven Aeolian Islands, together with Stromboli, Vulcano, Salina, Filicudi, Alicudi and Panarea.

The archaeological museum in Lipari covers Aeolian Islands' human history from prehistoric to classical times, as well as marine history, vulcanology, and paleontology of western Mediterranean.

On July 25, 2013, Lipari's mayor issued an ordinance banning the wearing of "bikinis, thongs or other swimming costumes" in the town centre. The penalty was EUR 500 (USD 700 in 2014).

Port Lipari is a small busy harbour with a long pier. The island's scenery features cultivated eastern slopes, narrow cobbled streets, Spanish fortress (16th century), finest sand beach.

Lipari Island cruise terminal

Cruise ships to Lipari Island anchor offshore (near Port Lipari, on the eastern coast) and transport their passengers to the pier via the ship's tender boats.
