Luxembourg City is Moselle River cruise port and the capital of Grand Duchy of Luxembourg - a sovereign country in Western Europe bordered by Belgium (north and west), Germany (east) and France (south). The city has population around 120,000, and together with Strasbourg (France) and Brussels (Belgium) is one of the European Union's 3 official capitals. Here is seated EU's European Court of Justice. The repeated invasions (especially during WW2 / 1939-1945) resulted in Luxembourg's strong will to mediate between Germany and France, leading to the foundation of the EU.
With total area around 2586 km2 (998 ml2), Luxembourg is one of Europe's smallest states. By population (around 525,000) it is ranked Europe's 8th least-populous. As a constitutional monarchy, the country is ruled by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. Luxembourg has an advanced economy and world's highest GDP per capita (around USD 101,000).
A fun fact is that according to the Visa Restrictions Index, Luxembourg citizens have visa-free access to 172 countries/territories. This ranks its passports as world's 6th "best passport" (in one group with Canada, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland). Note: by that index, in group 1 is Germany, group 2 (Sweden), group 3 (Finland, France, Italy, Spain, UK), group 4 (Belgium, Denmark, Holland, USA) and group 5 (Austria, Japan, Singapore).
The city is served by country's only international airport (Luxembourg Airport), located approx 6 km (4 ml) from downtown. It has 2 terminals - the old Terminal A (opened 1975) and the new Terminal B (opened 2004). Direct flights connect to Greece, UK, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Poland, Denmark, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Croatia, Turkey, Mediterranean and Greek islands, Morocco, Tunisia, Canary Islands, Cape Verde, UAE, Iceland.
The list of Luxembourg's river cruise ports also includes Remich, Wasserbillig, Grevenmacher.
