Macon (aka Mascon) is a Saone River cruise port and town in Burgundy (east-central France), located approx 65 km (40 mi) north of Lyon and approx 400 km (250 mi) from Paris City. The town has population around 35,000 and is on the river's western bank.

Among Macon's best-known landmarks and most popular tour destinations are Old Saint-Vincent (downtown), Saint-Vincent de Macon (19th-century cathedral), Fine Arts Museum, Musee Lamartine (18th-century hotel-house and museum), Saint-Clement (archeological site), Eglise Saint-Pierre (19th-century church), Maison Maconnaise des Vins (House of Wines), Vallon des Rigollettes (nature park), Quai Lamartine (quay), Ligue des droits de l'Homme (waterfront promenade), Chateau Saint-Jean (11th-century castle), Chateau des Perrieres (18th-century castle).

On cruise shore excursions/bus tours from Macon is visited Cluny (Saone-et-Loire) famous for its Abbey (10th-century Benedictine monastery) located approx 20 km / 12 mi to the northwest. Another popular excursion destination is Chateau de Cormatin (17th-century castle).
