Rhine-Main-Danube Canal (Main-Donau Kanal / Main-Danube Canal / RMD Canal) is located in Germany's Bavaria state. It connects both rivers Main and Danube and runs from Bamberg to Kelheim via Nuremberg (Nurnberg). Main-Danube Canal also connects North Sea (Rhine Delta at Rotterdam Holland) to Black Sea (Danube Delta in Romania through Danube-Black Sea Canal).

Rhine–Main–Danube Canal is part of each river cruise itinerary between Amsterdam Holland and Budapest Hungary or grand voyages all the way to Bucharest Romania, and also the reverse route from Black Sea (Romania) to North Sea (Holland). Along the route, there are a total of 16 locks managed from all 4 control centers (in Neuses, Kriegenbrunn, Hilpoltstein, and Dietfurt). Each station is manned with 1 worker (night shift) and 2 workers (day shift). In 2007 the locks' old relay technology was replaced with computers.
