Melnik is an Elbe River cruise port and town in Czech Republic's Stredovesky kraj (Central Bohemian Region). The town is located at the confluence of two rivers (Labe and Vltava), and approx 35 km (22 ml) north of Prague (country's capital city). The town has population around 20,000 and total area approx 25 km2 (10 ml2). Melnik is also part the Prague metro (urban zone with population over 2,6 million).

The town is best-known for the Melník Castle built by the House of Lobkowicz (Czech noble family dating back to the 14th century). The castle tour is offered as an optional cruise shore excursion, which also includes wine tasting in its large wine cellars. The experience includes tasting 6 different (locally-made) wines paired with fresh-baked bread, local cheese and other snacks.

Central Bohemia is among country's most important agricultural regions, with main produces being corn, sugar beet, fruits, vegetables, potatoes, wine. Bohemia's vineyards don't form one contiguous, but several separated vine growing regions. All are located on the south-facing valleys of 4 rivers (Elbe, Vltava, Berounka, Ohre). The Melník wine district has 160 hectares (1,6 km2) of vineyards, ranking it Bohemia's largest.

St Peter and St Paul's Church faces Melník Castle. It was rebuilt 3 times in the 10th-11th centuries. Since 2007, tourists are allowed to access church's tower.
