Miyazaki is a port city and Miyazaki Prefecture's capital, located on Japan's Kyushu Island. The city is crossed by several rivers and is a popular vacation and shopping destination. Among the attractions are the Phoenix Zoo, large hotels, numerous public baths (called onsens). The city's population is around 400,000, served by an airport and a seaport.
The city of Miyazaki was founded on April 1, 1924. Miyazaki Prefecture has all 3 ports serving cruise ships - Aburatsu (on the photo below, capacity to dock large ships - over 200,000 GT), Miyazaki (on the photo above, capacity for smaller / luxury ships and superyachts) and Hososhima (capacity for vessels up to 70,000 GT). Aburatsu pier was last upgraded in 2017. Maden calls at Hososhima in 2017 did SuperStar Virgo, MS Volendam and MS Amsterdam.
Port Aburatsu in 2017 was additionally upgraded with more bollards and tenders in order to be able to accommodate even the world's largest cruise liners (Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class ships / 225,000 GT). In 2018 was completed the expansion of the cruise port's tour bus parking.
Miyazaki's peak cruising season is May through October, but the ports receive ships the whole year round as the winter climate is warm.
