Moreton Island is located on Moreton Bay's eastern side, in Coral Sea, and on the coast of Southeast Queensland (Australia). Moreton Island is approx 58 km (36 ml) northeast of Queensland's capital Brisbane. Island's total area is 186 km2 (72 ml2), of which 95% is within "Moreton Island National Park and Recreation Area" - popular short-break vacation destination for day trippers, camping, recreational angling, 4x4 driving, whale watching.

Ferries from Brisbane offer a 75-min crossing (one-way) daily. Moreton is also world's 2nd largest sand island (following Fraser Island). Moreton's total population is under 500. The island is within Brisbane Metro City. Tangalooma Resort was built on the site of a former whaling station. All residential areas are on the island's western coast and face Moreton Bay. Access to the island is via passenger ferry or car barge. Among the most popular tourist activities are fishing, boating, snorkeling and camping.
