Mormugao (aka Marmagoa) is a port city, sub-district and municipality in South Goa district, which (together with Konkan) comprises India's Goa State. Mormugao's population is around 130,000.

Port Mormugao (locode INMRM) is the principal cargo (and cruise) port of Goa City (population around 1,5 million). Goa City’s Port Vasco da Gama (Vasco City) was founded in 1543 and currently has population around 100,000.

For season 2023-2024, Mormugao Port had scheduled 72 cruise ship calls/bookd berthings from 40 domestic and 32 international vessels. The season started on September 22nd with the visit of Cordelia Cruises' ship Empress.

Vasco Mormugao is a major trade port featuring a natural deepwater harbor. It was the terminus of a gauge railway linking the Portuguese colony Estado da India (1505-1961) with British Raj (1858-1947). As part of the project, a British company modernized the seaport and built the railway (officially opened in July 1886).

Marmagoa (and Goa City) are currently served only by Dabolim Airport, located approx 5 km / 3 mi from Vasco. The airport was opened in 1955 and its new (2013-inaugurated) terminal has annual passenger capacity ~8 million.

In 1963, Port Mormugao was designated Major Port. It is currently ranked India's main iron ore export port, with annual throughput 27+ million tons.
