Moundsville is an Ohio River cruise port and city in West Virginia (Marshall County), USA, with population around 8,000. The town is located along the river and is named after the ancient Grave Creek Mound (designated a National Historic Landmark, diameter 73 m/240 ft, height 19 m/62 ft). The structure was artificially built by Indians of the Adena culture. It is estimated that for its creation were moved 60,000+ tons of dirt.
As a cruise port, Moundsville was inaugurated/included for the first time in the 2024 schedule of the USA's largest cruise shipowner and operator ACL/American Cruise Lines. The next table shows ACL's "Ohio River Cruise" itinerary (8 nights/9 days).

The settlement was formed in the late-18th century by English colonists. The town was officially incorporated in 1865, merging two settlements - Elizabethtown and Mound City.
The town was connected to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (USA's first/oldest railroad, 1830-opened/1987-closed) in 1852. The railway connected the Eastern USA rail network with the Ohio-Mississippi waterway and made Moundsville an important riverport.
