Nantucket MA is a port town on Nantucket Island, located approx 20 km (14 mi) south of Cape Cod (mainland Massachusetts USA). Along with the small islands Muskeget and Tuckernuck, Nantucket Island forms the administrative unit "Town of Nantucket", with total population around 11,000 and land area approx 273 km2 (105 mi2). Nantucket Island is the southernmost settlement in Massachusetts. In the 19th century, the town was nicknamed "The Whaling City" being one of the world's largest whaling ports, together with New Bedford MA and New London CT.

The island is a very popular summer vacation travel destination in Massachusetts. Due to seasonal residents and tourists, the island's population increases up to 50,000 people during peak summer season. In 2008, house prices per ft2 were considered much higher compared to NYC's The Hamptons (East End, Long Island).

Nantucket Island can be reached from mainland Massachusetts by car and by sea - via ferries (Ro-Pax vessels / car and passenger ships) and private boat charters. Nantucket ferry services are managed by SSA-Steamship Authority (Nantucket Island and Martha's Vineyard island) and provided by the companies "Freedom Cruise Line" (departures from Saquatucket Harbor, Harwich MA) and "Hy-Line Cruises" (high-speed catamarans/cruiseferries departing from Hyannis to Nantucket Island year-round and to Martha's Vineyard Island seasonally).
