Nikopol is a Danube River cruise port and town in Bulgaria's Pleven Province (country's north-central part), with population around 4,000. Since 2010, regular daily scheduled ferries connect Nikopol with Turnu Magurele (Romania), providing passengers and car transportation across Danube and urging local tourism developments, including new hotels and restaurants. The town was partially flooded by Danube during the floods of 2006, after which it developed a new infrastructure to manage river's fluctuations.

As cruise port, Nikopol serves Danube cruising riverboats leaving from central Europe (homeports Vienna Austria, Budapest Hungary, Passau Germany) all the way to Black Sea (via Danube Delta). From Nikopol, cruise ship tourists are transported via buses to the nearby large city Pleven (population around 250,000) offered as a shore excursion option.

Nikopol is included as part of Bulgaria's 5th-largest nature park - Persina. This is country's only natural park on Danube and features marshlands, over 200 bird species, nearly 480 plant species, around 1100 animal species. Persina Natural Park is designated Ramsar Site (wetland of international importance). Town's best-known tourist attractions include medieval fortress ruins, St Peter and Paul Church (13th-century), St Stephen Church, Vasil Levski (house museum), Elia water fountain (with an epitaphed Ancient Roman gravestone).
