Nukualofa is the main seaport and capital city Tonga (island country in southern Pacific Ocean). The city is on the northern coast of Tongatapu Island, in Tonga's southernmost island group, and has population around 25,000.

Nukualofa is country's economic and central transportation hub with large markets and a central business district. Bus services are operated privately, and motorcoach drivers are free to set various schedules. Buses are ordinarily filled to capacity. Some large hotels and schools provide their own shuttles. Taxis are also privately owned. Most families have their own car. Tonga has no railways (tram service).

Port Nukualofa Harbour is Tonga's only deep-water port. Vuna Wharf served as international port until 1977, when was destroyed by earthquake. A larger docking wharf was built towards Maufanga. Between both wharves is berth 42, used by inter-island ferries and fishing boats. Private boats also provide ferry and tour services to smaller islands.

The city is served by Fuaamotu Airport (on Tongatapu's southern side), approx 35 km (22 ml) from Nukualofa. In January 2015, a new island (1 km in diameter) was created following volcanic eruption. The new island is approx 65 km (40 ml) northwest of Nukualofa.
