Oltenita is a Arges River (Danube River) cruise port and town in Romania, located on Arges River's left bank, across Tutrakan (Bulgaria). Oltenita has population around 25,000.

For the first time the town (as Oltenita) was mentioned  in 1515. Here the Ottoman turks attempted to cross Danube during the Crimean War (1853–1856) inflicting heavy Russian losses. During Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), Oltenita was an important point for Romanian troops crossing into Bulgaria to aid the liberating Russian Army during the siege of Pleven. During WW1 (1914-18), the area was chosen by the allied Bulgarian-German troops for the invasion of Romania. The Romanian Army was defeated in the Battle of Turtucaia (September 1916).
